Improvements:
12/07: Wider Collar, from 7 across to 9 across to block even more scratching!
4/08: Smaller center hole, so the collar can be used on smaller & younger cats.
8/08: Duct tape around outter edge, to eliminate blue foam bits on floor and it makes the collar last much longer!
Why we developed this collar:
#1: The PetsGuard collar saved the life of our cat "Big Guy" who has extreme allergies (seafood, grass pollen, dust mites and even cat dander!). He kept scratching the sores all over his face so they could not heal. We initially tried the plastic cone collar from our vet, but Big Guy would back-up in circles or just sit in a corner. He couldn't move because the plactic cone touched both his ears and whiskers, which disoriented him. After months of looking for a better solution, we came up with this simple design. It worked so well that Big Guy's sores healed and he now wears the collar for just a few days whenever his allergies flare-up. #2: Another one of our cats "Deuce" came home with an abcess on his rear leg. This dangerous infection had to be shaved, opened and drained by our veterinarian. Afterward, Deuce wore the PetsGuard foam collar in the house to keep him from licking the sore and the antibiotic ointment that we put on twice a day. The result was quick healing and a happier cat!
#3: "Val" kept licking and chewing on her stitches after being spayed. Once we put the PetGuard foam collar on her (plus salve around her stitches to stop the itching), she stopped trying to lick and calmed down. PetsGuard Products ~ Medford, Oregon ~ 541.944.6295 ~
